This image was taken by the Mars Descent Imager on board the Curiosity Rover during its descent to the surface of Mars. The disc-shaped object in the center-top-left is the heat shield after being ejected. You can see it in higher resolution on the Mars Science Laboratory/JPL photo gallery.
