Looks like tonight’s first presidential debate wasn’t the first time Mitt Romney invoked Big Bird to make a point. About 10 months ago, while campaigning in Iowa, Mitt Romney pledged to cut spending for PBS, saying that Big Bird should be supported by advertisements, because he didn’t want to have to “borrow money from China” to cover the federal budget deficit. ”We’re not going to kill Big Bird,” Romney said. The Uptake looked at just how effective that might be.

I’d like to just append to this, a tweet from Neil deGrasse Tyson, “Cutting PBS support (0.012% of budget) to help balance the Federal budget is like deleting text files to make room on your 500Gig hard drive.”
